Homes We Support
About the DBE Homes
There are four residential retirement homes,
each located in a DBE district: the Victoria Home in Ossining,
N.Y.; the British Home in Brookfield (Chicago), IL;
Mountbatten House in Highlands (Houston), TX; and the British
Home in California Ltd. in Sierra Madre (Los Angeles), CA.
Each Home has its own bylaws and rules of admission.
The Homes are financed by donation and contributions from DBE
members and other philanthropic organizations. These funds are
augmented by monies received from the residents.
Western District Home
DBE in Southern California helps
support the Western District Home, which was incorporated in
1930 in Sierra Madre. Here, there is accommodation for 37
residents in five separate groups of cottages, with a dining
room, kitchen and offices surrounding a central garden. DBE
members attend the annual June Fayre, and help support the
Home financially through fundraisers and in friendship.
